At Monarch Center for Autism, family involvement is critical. Our staff partners with our students' families to build trust, promote continuity of learning and reinforce key strategies. We welcome and value family members' observations, thoughts, ideas and concerns, and strive to integrate and transfer the successes learned at Monarch to the home environment.
In turn, we recognize the importance of offering support group services to families who are raising children with autism. For both parents and siblings, we believe having the opportunity to meet others like them, share information and exchange emotional support and guidance, is critical. Consequently, Monarch offers the following support groups:
Parent Support Group
- Opportunities for parents of children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorders to network with other families, engage in facilitated discussions, gain insights, lend support through shared experiences, and learn about current resources available in the autism community. Sessions are offered on the East side, and are free of charge.
- One participant stated:
"I can't tell you what an amazing group you facilitate. It has brought so much to me and to my family. My husband is so glad I have gone. Who knew support would make such a difference in the day to day with real life issues!!!! I just adore you for all of the times you looked me in the eye and acknowledged how very much I love [my son] and how hard it is to be his Mom."
- Interactive workshops, conducted in a relaxed recreational setting, designed to introduce siblings of children with autism to their peers, and facilitate conversations regarding common joys and concerns. Siblings are grouped by age. Sessions are offered on the East side, for a fee.
