Eligibility for Waivers

In the case of either of the two Ohio Department of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disability (ODMRDD) waivers254, individuals will be determined eligible based on the identification of functional limitations in three of the following targeted areas:

  • Self Care
  • Self-Direction
  • Learning
  • Mobility
  • Economic Self-sufficiency (age 16+)
  • Understanding and Using Language
  • Capacity for Independent Living

An individual must be eligible for Medicaid in order to obtain and maintain eligibility for Waiver services. The local Job & Family Services office determines Medicaid eligibility.

Medicaid Eligibility takes into consideration:

  • Income (How much one makes each month)
  • Financial Assets (What one owns, trusts, savings or investments)
  • Health, disability & age

To apply for Medicaid, contact your County Department of Job and Family Services and fill out an application. You can re-apply for Medicaid as many times as you want.
