As there is no known “cause of” or “cure for” autism, the best approach to addressing the autism epidemic is the development and broad dissemination of effective treatment resources and interventions that promise to dramatically improve the quality of life for individuals with autism and their families.
Monarch Teaching Technologies, Inc. (MTT) was founded in 2005 by Wingspan Care Group and MTT CEO Terry Murphy. MTT exclusively licensed intellectual property from Bellefaire JCB (a member of Wingspan and parent of the Monarch Center for Autism), and Harvard Medical School/Children’s Hospital Boston’s Autism Language Program, in order to develop visual learning software for the treatment of children and adolescents with autism.
This software, entitled VizZle™, was developed at Monarch School, in collaboration with Howard Shane, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Harvard Medical School and Director of the Center for Communication Disorders at Children’s Hospital Boston. Dr. Shane documented the efficacy of Monarch School’s curriculum in his book Visual Language in Autism (Plural Publishing, 2008).
VizZle™ is revolutionizing and democratizing the education and treatment of children with autism. It transformed a uniquely effective visual language curriculum into the first interactive, web-based lesson creation and delivery system for the classroom and home. The software has been adapted for widespread use by schools, clinicians and parents of children with autism.
